Sharon D. Wright Austin

My name is Sharon Wright Austin. I am a professor at the University of Florida where I teach African American Studies and Political Science. I have published two books and my third will be published in 2018. My first book, Race, Power, and Political Emergence in Memphis, was published by Garland Publishing in 2000 under my maiden name Sharon Wright. My second, The Transformation of Plantation Politics: Black Politics, Concentrated Poverty, and Social Capital in the Mississippi Delta was published by the State University of New York (SUNY) at Albany Press in 2006. My third will also be published in SUNY in 2018 and is entitled The Caribbeanization of Black Politics: Race, Group Consciousness, and Political Participation in America. I enjoy writing and teaching and hope you enjoy my work.
