I am a professor at the University of Delaware, where I carry out research into a variety of literacy questions affecting the day-to-day lives of teachers. In my books on differentiated reading instruction, literacy coaching, and preschool, my goal has been to translate findings into practical terms in order to guide the implementation of best practice in real classrooms. I am not an armchair author, content to write at a distance from the realities teachers face. Far from it! I am in schools nearly every day, learning from teachers, coaches, and administrators alike and building on my own experiences in all three of these positions. With the help of an understanding husband, I am the mother of two boys, two dogs, and one cat. With the help of understanding co-authors, I have been able to pool my expertise with the insights of knowledgeable colleagues.
