Detroit-native Shaun Grenan has been a history buff since his childhood. After high school, he moved to Gettysburg, PA and lived there for 14 years, much of it spent working at the battlefield. He has also been in numerous film and television shows. His love for all things Zouave-related came about when he discovered ancestors in the 5th New York Veteran Volunteers—Duryee’s Zouaves, and the 53rd New York Volunteers—D’Epineuil’s Zouaves. This led him to begin the research that led to the creation of his website, the Civil War Zouave Data-base — zouavedatabase.com. After moving back to Michigan to be near his family, and throughout a successful battle with lung cancer, Shaun completed the extensive research which resulted in his publication, "We Have Them On Our Own Ground: Zouaves at Gettysburg". This is his second published work, the first being “So You Want to Be a Soldier: How to Get Started in Civil War Reenacting”. He also is the editor of a reprint of “Music on the March”, a memoir and unit history of the 114th PA Zouaves. He is currently working on his next book, "Jesus of the Jungle: The Life & Letters of John R. McLean, USIS". Shaun resides in Plymouth, MI with his very patient wife, Sara, and their crazy dog, Tillie (who’s not quite as patient), and their two amazing foster boys.
