Shen Yang

Shen Yang was born in 1986 in Shandong China, but as an “excess child” (hēiháizi) she doesn’t legally exist. Raised away from her family with a different identity, Shen Yang belongs to the millions of “invisible children” who violated the One-Child Policy and were forced to live in the shadows of Chinese society. Amidst a troubled childhood, Shen Yang found solace in literature and graduated in Applied English. She has since studied scriptwriting at Beijing Film Academy, and now lives between China and Italy, where she crafts her literary works.
