Sheri Poe Bernard, CCS-P, CPC, CRC, CDEO, is one of the nation’s leading developers of medical coding curricula and referential material. With more than 25 years of experience in coding and reimbursement, publishing, training, and test development, she is an expert communicator of coding concepts. Bernard is a risk adjustment consultant as well as a freelance writer and educator. She previously was vice president of clinical coding content at AAPC. Prior to joining AAPC as an employee, she served on its National Advisory Board for eight years and on the executive team of that board for four years. For 15 years, she created clinical coding products at Optum360 (Ingenix), where she developed a love for the International Classification of Disease. She is a frequent national speaker on topics involving CPT, anatomy and pathophysiology, ICD-10-CM, and risk adjustment coding. Bernard lives in Salt Lake City and spends the warm months gardening at home and fly fishing in high mountain lakes. During Utah's winters, she can be found in front of the fireplace reading fiction, small dogs curled on her lap.
