Simon Kreindler was born and grew up in Barbados. After graduating high school, he studied marine biology at McGill University in Montreal then entered medical school there. After completing post-graduate training in psychiatry in the United States in 1971, he and his family returned to Canada and settled in Toronto. Simon was in private practice there until his retirement in 2018. Simon has had a long-standing interest in genealogy and spent many years researching his family's history. In 2013, he published a memoir for his children and grandchildren that incorporated much of what he had discovered. The story of how his parents got from Europe to Barbados in the 1930s, inspired him to acquire the stories of their European Jewish contemporaries on the island and in 2017 led to the publication of "Peddlers All, Stories of the First Ashkenazi Jewish Settlers in Barbados." Simon and his wife, Ruby, have three children and eight grandchildren, all living in Toronto. Toronto, February 2023
