Sonali Kolhatkar is an award-winning multimedia journalist, writer and artist. A life-long immigrant, she was born and raised in the U.A.E., is originally from India, and now lives in Los Angeles. She has been a storyteller for more than two decades and hosts a long-running nationally syndicated political show, Rising Up With Sonali airing on dozens of community radio stations, television and podcast platforms. Her op-eds, political reporting, and personal essays are deeply informed by social justice, and inspired by intersecting identities and abolitionist ideals. She has been published widely including in the LA Times, The Nation, In These Times, Salon, the LA Review of Books, and YES! Magazine, where she currently works as a senior editor covering race, economy, and democracy. She is also senior correspondent at the Independent Media Institute’s Economy for All project where she writes about economic justice. Her books include Bleeding Afghanistan: Washington, Warlords and the Propaganda of Silence, Rising Up: The Power of Narrative in Pursuing Racial Justice and Talking About Abolition: A Police-Free World is Possible.
