Stephen Floyd is a polyglot who grew up in Arizona, learning Spanish and French concurrently. After getting a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Humanities, he enlisted in the U.S. Army and became an interrogator, learning Russian at the Defense Language Institute. When it became clear that peacekeepers would be needed to enforce the Dayton Accords in Bosnia, he was ordered to learn Serbo-Croatian and went to Bosnia for an entire year. Upon returning from that crucial experience he and his wife Erin decided that he should get out of the Army and stay in Alaska, where they have now lived since arriving in 1994. Having worked as a Youth Pastor, a school bus driver and as a local radio announcer for 17 years, he got to know Fairbanks in a variety of ways, from the streets to the people to the nightlife and business environment. Stephen now works in a guest services position for Northern Alaska Tour Company where he actually gets to use his French, Spanish, Russian, Serbian, and fledgling Chinese. He also has a full studio in his basement, where he records audiobooks for Audible, iTunes, and Amazon.
