Steve Hinch, author of Winning through Innovation, has over 35 years of experience in high tech, including senior management positions in R&D, marketing, and business general management at Hewlett-Packard and Agilent Technologies. He also served as President and CEO of TeamLogic IT in Santa Rosa, California, a provider of computer support and network design services for small and medium size businesses. Trained as an electrical engineer, he holds three patents and has authored five books. As a recognized leader in the industry’s transition to surface mount technology, in 1989 he was awarded the IPC President’s Award for outstanding service in the advancement of the electronics industry. Steve has traveled the American Southwest for over forty years, either on solo hikes into remote areas or with like-minded photographers on multi-day expeditions. His book on the canyon country of southern Utah, The Slickrock Desert, was named winner of a 2023 IBPA Benjamin Franklin Award. A recognized expert on the use of GPS in the outdoors, his book, Outdoor Navigation with GPS, now in its third edition, is a bestselling guide to the subject. He has taught courses on GPS navigation to police and fire personnel, search-and-rescue teams, hunters, hikers, and backpackers for many years. He is also the author of Hiking and Adventure Guide to the Sonoma Coast and Russian River (now in its second edition), plus technical books for the electronics industry.
