Stephen J. Lyons is the author of six books of essays and journalism: Landscape of the Heart: Writings on Daughters and Journeys, A View from the Inland Northwest, The 1,000-Year Flood: Destruction, Loss, Rescue, and Redemption along the Mississippi River, Going Driftless: Life Lessons from the Heartland for Unraveling Times, West of East, and Searching for Home. Stephen's essays and commentaries have appeared in more than a dozen anthologies and his byline has appeared in The Sun, Wall Street Journal, Chicago Tribune, Chicago Reader, Newsweek, High Country News, the Independent, South China Morning Post, the New York Daily News, the Washington Post, The Chronicle of Higher Education, Reason, Psychotherapy Networker, Salon, Audubon, USA Today, and many more magazines and newspapers.
