Stephen Leal Jackson

Stephen Leal Jackson is a historian, writer, and researcher whose areas of focus include twentieth century American and Modern European history, the history of the American Navy submarine service, film studies with emphasis on the portrayal of women and minorities in motion pictures, and the interaction of humans with their natural environment. Jackson's eight years in the United States Navy submarine service and give him a unique perspective into the somewhat mysterious world of life beneath the waves. His historian education and detailed but accessible writing style combined to allow Jackson to provide clear and easy access to the fascinating experiences of the men who fought the undersea battles during World War II. It has been his privilege to work with and maintain close relationships with many of the men who served in submarines during the World War II and after. Using a strong basis of historical research, Jackson has moved off into the study of both the visual arts and poetic writing. Even the illustrations he creates are based in relevant totemic forms and symbolic images. Jackson was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut and continues to make that state his home. He completed a Masters of History degree from Providence College in 2009 and is currently working on his dissertation for a PhD in Humanities from Salve Regina University in Newport, Rhode Island.
