Dr. Stephen Riggs received his medical degree with honors from the University of Iowa in 1987 and went on to a combined residency in internal medicine and pediatrics at the University of Rochester NY where he received two teaching awards. After fulfilling a four year military commitment stationed in Japan, Dr. Riggs returned to his home roots in Iowa where he has practiced primary care ever since. Discovering the power of the ketogenic diet in 2017, Dr. Riggs then turned his energies into treating metabolic disorders including obesity and diabetes in both adults and children and went on for further training in obesity medicine and advanced ketogenic nutrition. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians, American Academy of Pediatrics, a diplomat with the American Board of Obesity Medicine, and a Certified Ketogenic Nutrition Specialist. He is the founding director of a comprehensive weight loss, diabetes, and metabolic center with MercyOne Healthcare. When not practicing medicine Dr. Riggs and his wife of 41 years love to travel, hike, scuba dive and stay active with their three children, their spouses, and 12 active grandchildren.
