Steve MacBeth was born in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, and is a 25-year veteran of the Canadian Armed Forces. He began his career as a soldier in the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry before being selected to the Officer Corps, where he served with The Royal Canadian Regiment as an Infantry Officer. His deployments include Bosnia, multiple tours in Afghanistan, Latvia, and other small missions. Steve lead at each tactical level on deployments to Afghanistan, including: Rifle Platoon Commander, Reconnaissance Platoon Commander, and Commander of an Afghan Battalion Operational Mentor and Liaison Team. He concluded his Canadian military career as the Commanding Officer of the 1st Battalion, The Royal Canadian Regiment, where he led a multinational battlegroup in Latvia. He has uniquely been awarded national honours from the Governor General of Canada on three seperate occasions; receiving two Meritorious Service Medals for actions during combat tours of duty in Khandahar and the Meritorious Service Cross for his leadership as the Multi-National Battle Group Commander in Latvia. Following his retirement from the Canadian Forces, Steve continued his service with the New Zealand Defence Force. Steve is passionate about veteran's transitions, their stories and volunteers with the veteran led disaster relief organisation Task Force Kiwi. He resides in Wellington, New Zealand, with his family. In his free time, Steve is trying to learn surf cast fishing and exploring the breathtaking wilderness on the trails of New Zealand.
