Steve Ruis (1946- ) got started late in archery and was predominantly a compound bow field archer until frequent complaints about how "we weren't doing enough to help kids in archery" got him into coaching. He then acquired a Level 4 coaching credential from USA Archery and Master Coach credential from the National Field Archery Association and was certified by US Collegiate Archery as he was the coach of the University of Chicago Archery Team for a number of years. Steve shoots recurves, longbows, and compound bows, but his real passion now is to elevate the coaching of archery, as that is the route through which many more people can come to enjoy the sport. Steve, born and raised in California, currently lives in Chicago, IL. Steve Ruis, with his partner Claudia Stevenson, have been publishing Archery Focus magazine for more than twenty years. Steve has published a large number of books to help archery coaches including Coaching Archery, More on Coaching Archery, Even More on Coaching Archery, Still More on Coaching Archery, Archery Coaching How To's, and the Principles of Coaching Archery, Vol. 1 & 2. He has also published books to help archers and archery parents including Archery 4 Kids, A Parent's Guide to Archery, Winning Archery, Shooting Arrows (Archery for Adult beginners), and Why You Suck at Archery, all through Watching Arrows Fly, a publisher created specifically to launch deserving archery books. If you have an archery book you want to share, contact Watching Arrows Fly.
