Steve Penoncello received his B.S. and M.S. degrees in mechanical engineering from the University of North Dakota (UND) in 1978 and 1980, respectively. He received his Ph.D. in mechanical engineering from the University of Idaho (UI) in 1986. His academic positions include professorial appointments at UND and UI since 1980. He retired from academia at the end of the spring 2015 term. His current rank is Professor Emeritus of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Idaho. While at the University of Idaho, Dr. Penoncello developed a course in thermal energy systems design. This senior level course has been a required course in the mechanical engineering curriculum since 1992. The content of this course is the foundation for his book in thermal energy systems design and analysis. Dr. Penoncello's research interest is in the area of thermophysical propertes of fluids of scientific and engineering interest. He has authored and/or coauthored refereed journal articles and books in this area.
