Born in the pulsating heart of Nepal, in Kathmandu, Sumitra Shakya grew up amidst the majestic shadows of the Himalayas and the ancient stone streets of the city's historic neighborhoods. Her youth was characterized by a captivating blend of Buddhist and Hindu traditions, intertwined with the stories that the mountains have to tell to those who listen. At the age of 33, Sumitra is not only a representative of the rich Nepalese culture but also a symbol of strength and resilience. Her life, like that of many Nepalis, has been marked by challenge and transformation. She experienced the earthquake of 2015, which devastated many parts of her beloved Nepal, but she also witnessed the rebirth and reconstruction that followed. Sumitra has always had a passion for writing and storytelling. She has traveled to many parts of her country, collecting live stories from monks, farmers, and ordinary people, finding inspiration in their lives and the lessons they offer. Her books are deeply influenced by her personal experiences, reflections on Zen philosophy, and her innate ability to find beauty and wisdom in the simplest of situations. Her writing invites the reader to slow down, breathe, and find peace and serenity in the essence of everyday life. Sumitra is a practitioner of meditation and yoga, and she often leads seminars and retreats in the Nepalese mountains, offering participants an authentic experience of introspection and connection with nature.
