Susanne Herzog

Susanne Herzog is a true animal lover – to be more precise she is a cat lover, not surprisingly because she grew up in a household full of cats. From an early age she developed her love of animals by helping out regularly in an animal shelter. For the first time she became aware of the darker side of keeping animals – with neglected, traumatised and practically unsocialised animals. This aroused her interest and she began to analyse how these things could happen. But rather than try to just analyse the reasons for it, it was much more important for her to find out how the majority of problems could be avoided in the first place. Based on that, she developed methods to help animals with acute behavioural problems to settle into a better and more normal life. Susanne Herzog is not content just to help cats in the shelter, in which she is still working on a voluntary basis, she also gives seminars for stressed cat owners several times a year. The experiences gained in her work and the feedback she received from participants of her courses, gave her the idea of expanding the accessibility of her wide-ranging knowledge to a larger group of people in the form of a book. Her aim is to help cat owners to set the right course between human and cat, from the very beginning, so that they can live happy and enriched lives together. She wants to avoid people from making the mistakes right at the beginning which can lead to bigger problems, causing the cat to be taken to a shelter. After a long process of research, writing and correction, this guidebook emerged. In addition to general directions on raising cats, particular attention is given in this book to a single breed. It is intended to give future cat owners a guide to getting the difficult task of raising your cat right at the first attempt. Every cat is worth the effort of avoiding the mistakes which so many unknowledgeable cat owners make at the beginning. Over the years, Susanne Herzog has seen that such mistakes often lead to the cat being taken to a shelter, and it is hoped that the readers of this book can be spared from that.
