Suse Barnes was born in Cape Town, South Africa in 1972. Her parents named her Susan Barnes, but in 2012 she realized that there were too many Susan Barnes' in the world, so she rebranded herself Suse Barnes in order to be found more easily in a Google Search. There is less competition for "Suse Barnes" than "Susan Barnes." Suse is a digital marketing consultant, professor and speaker. She runs a digital marketing consulting firm called Susby Internet Solutions supporting clients with search engine marketing, social media marketing and web marketing. Suse has taught classes in digital marketing, social media marketing, search engine marketing and advertising since 2004. She has taught at Hult International Business School, the University of San Francisco, San Francisco State University where she is a founding instructor and co-program advisor for the Social Media Marketing Program, Notre Dame de Namur University in Belmont and California State University East Bay. Suse has two Bachelors degrees from Oberlin College and Conservatory of Music as well as a Masters degree in Clarinet performance from Northwestern University. She also holds a Certificate in Internet Design and Technology from San Francisco State University's Multimedia Studies Program where she was the recipient of the Robert Bell Award for Outstanding Achievement. She earned her Web Analytics Master Certification through Market Motive in 2012 and is an active web analyst for several clients. In 2015 she was mentioned in 150 Great Marketers to Follow by Likeable Local. In addition to consulting, writing, speaking and teaching, Suse plays clarinet in the Bay Area Rainbow Symphony and enjoys running and painting. She reads mostly non-fiction marketing related books, but recently enjoyed "East to the Dawn" by Susan Butler about Amelia Earhart.
