Sylvia Whitman

Hi. I can't seem to leave school. I've been a serial student (graduate degrees in American studies, creative writing, and Arab studies), and now I'm a teacher who writes. I’ve published hundreds of articles for adults and children, more than a dozen books for young readers, and a handful of short stories in magazines ranging from Redbook to The Florida Review. I grew up on Long Island and have meandered over much of the East and South. In 2015, I moved from Arlington, Virginia, to Sarasota, Florida, with my two kids–now fledging young adults. I’m a full-time faculty member at Ringling College of Art and Design, where I teach creative and professional writing. Find out more at my website!
