Syren Nagakyrie is the founder of Disabled Hikers and the author of numerous trail guides and travel itineraries for people with disabilities. Their work bridges a gap in resources that are created by disabled people for disabled people. Syren's first book, The Disabled Hiker's Guide to Western Washington and Oregon, is a groundbreaking publication to consider a diversity of access needs and disabilities in the outdoors. They have been featured in New York Times, NPR, USA Today, Conde Nast, Outside, and TripSavvy, among others. Syren grew up with multiple disabilities and finds connection with nature to be a source of comfort in times of social isolation. As a long time disabled activist and community builder, they are passionate about liberation through connection. Disabled Hikers, their organization, continues this work through celebrating disabled experiences in the outdoors, facilitating those experiences with information, resources, and events, and advocating for change in the outdoor industry. Syren is also a freelance writer, consultant, and presenter.
