Tellis A. Bethel, a former Commander Defence Force within the Royal Bahamas Defence Force (2015 – 2020) at the rank of Commodore, currently serves as the Standards Inspector of Security Forces within The Bahamas. Commodore Bethel loves the waters of The Bahamas, where he has had years of experience as a young naval officer in the Royal Bahamas Defence Force engaged in extensive counter-drug smuggling operations throughout The Bahamas during the peak years of the 1980s narcotics trade. He has a great appreciation for the rich heritage of The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands, and their historic role in the unfolding of the nations of the modern Americas. He also enjoys writing about the life and legacy of the Lucayan people and is a leading advocate for promoting the unique heritage of The Bahamas and the Turks and Caicos Islands as the birthplace of the modern Americas. As a naval officer, author, and historian, Commodore Bethel has been privileged to travel around the 700 islands of The Bahamas. He has fostered a distinct love for the pristine waters of The Bahamas, and the story of the indigenous people of the islands. Though known for his tough, no-nonsense demeanor when it comes to injustices, Commodore Bethel is also known for his unyielding, selfless love for humanity, his gregarious nature, and a rambunctious sense of humor. Commodore Bethel is a graduate of the Britannia Naval College, Devon, England and the Naval Staff College at United States Naval War College in Providence, Rhode Island, and has a Master of Arts degree in Leading Innovation and Change from York St. John University in England. Commodore Bethel and his wife Teri, have two adult sons.
