Author of three books set in Africa, Teresa's first book, "Safari Jema", won the 2012 Indie Book Award for Best Memoir and 2013 Finalist for Best Travel Book. Teresa is honored with two Travelers' Tales Solas Awards for Best Writing 2018: Animal Encounter and Travel Memoir. Known for her candid humor and insightful observations, Teresa O'Kane writes about travel from her home in California and from around the world. She sailed a catamaran named Different Drummer from California to Hawaii, trekked in the Himalayas, worked as a construction manager on a bridge project in Zambia, hiked more than 500 miles of the Camino de Santiago, and traveled to 120 countries and all seven continents. She is honored to be a member of The Explorer's Club. In Safari Jema, she and her husband Scott pick up the thread of their dream and transit Africa from top to bottom. Teresa’s second book, “My Life with Ndoto, Exploring Africa in a Forty-Year-Old Land Rover”, was a Finalist in the 2020 Indie Book Awards and won the Kindle Book Review Award for non-fiction. This adventure covers a year-long expedition through East and Southern Africa, this time in a 1973 Land Rover named Ndoto (Swahili for Dream). "The Dancing Bridge of Kamunjoma" is Teresa's third book. Teresa's current 2020 journey is aboard a tug boat named Green Eyes, where she and her husband are cruising the Great Loop in a 26' Nordic Tug with their cat Pika.
