Terry Crowdy (T.E. Crowdy) is a military history author specialising in Napoleonic and Second World War subjects. His Napoleonic works include 'Incomparable' - a detailed regimental history of the French 9th Light Infantry Regiment; 'Napoleon's Infantry Manual' - an essential guide to daily life in Napoleon's Grande Armée; and 'Marengo' - an in-depth reappraisal of Napoleon's first (and probably most important) victory as de-facto French head of state. A specialist in infantry topics (particularly light infantry), his books include studies on the French navy and women camp followers in the era. His latest book is 'Formidable: Arthur Flint Against Tirpitz and the Kamikazes'. Based on conversations with his Grandfather (a WWII Royal Navy veteran), this tells the story of the epic voyage of the aircraft carrier HMS Formidable as it voyaged to the Far East to fight with the Americans at Okinawa and the final battle against Japan. He edited the popular memoirs of Donald Dean VC, a Kentish hero who fought in both world wars, and wrote Deceiving Hitler, a study of the colourful world of British deception in WWII. He has written extensively on 'secret war' topics, including 'The Enemy Within' - a global history of espionage since ancient times; SOE and the French Resistance. Known for his painstaking archive research, and a fast-paced, lively narrative style, Terry Crowdy's books have been translated into many languages. He has made numerous radio and TV appearances providing expert opinion. Terry Crowdy is the Safety Manager for Historic Royal Palaces, the independent charity which manages the Tower of London, Hampton Court Palace, the Banqueting House Whitehall, Kensington Palace, Kew Palace, and Hillsborough Castle. He is a specialist in heritage fire protection, risk and incident management. He lives in the ancient Saxon Kingdom of Kent, on the old Roman road from Retupiae to Londinium. He is an aficionado of Ian Fleming's original James Bond novels, Floris 89, and wine.
