Dr. Thomas Bruce completed his PhD in Mechanical and Material Engineering with a focus on continuous fiber-reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite materials at the University of Western Ontario. Dr. Bruce continues to work closely with the staff of Western University on numerous composite material related testing projects. As well Dr. Bruce has worked for 30 years at General Dynamics Land Systems–Canada, where he is engaged in the design and testing of vehicle level protection systems for armoured vehicles which make extensive use of composite materials. His career ha involved the researching, designing, and live-fire testing of Armored Fighting Vehicle armor protection systems, including protection against ballistic, shaped-charge warhead, buried and elevated blast, explosively formed penetrators (EFP’s), fragmentation warheads (artillery shells) and improvised explosive devices (IED’s). In addition Dr. Bruce operates an independent engineering consulting company, Fort-Bruce Testing Inc, which offers extensive services with regards to the design and testing of materials and components, with a particular focus on composite materials for the marine industry.
