Tom James

Cokato attorney Thomas James of the Law Office of Tom James in Minnesota. Tom James, Thomas James, and Thomas B. James are all names that he has used, at different times. Thomas James has been a practicing attorney at the Tom James Law Office since 1995. There, he focuses on helping small businesses, including but not limited to securing tax-exempt status for non-profit organizations. His areas of greatest expertise, however, are copyrights and trademarks. Although a Cokato attorney, Thomas James has obtained trademark registrations on behalf of national organizations and he has helped many people, including nationally recognized authors, protect the copyrights in their works. Attorney Tom James is also a continuing legal education instructor. He teaches courses on copyright, trademark, e-commerce law, ethics and the elimination of bias in the legal profession, family law, and other subjects. Despite his relative isolation in the cornfields of greater Minnesota, Cokato attorney Thomas James is the founding director of Echion CLE, a nonprofit educational organization providing CLE instruction to legal professionals. In his capacity as Thomas B. James, and sometimes Tom James, he has authored and published several books. These include: "E-Commerce Law: The Legal Compliance Handbook for Online Businesses," "Website Law," "The History of Custody Law," and "Domestic Violence: The 12 Things You Aren't Supposed to Know." He has also written and published a number of law review articles. In his spare time, and more as a labor of love than anything else, attorney Tom James maintains a blog called "Cokato Copyright Attorney - The Law Blog of Thomas James." Although Minnesota is not known for sweet potato production, Cokato attorney Thomas James is also the author of a collection of sweet potato recipes and what he calls "tuber tips." These are short, humorous, often completely useless suggestions and pieces of advice regarding the care, use and preparation of sweet potatoes. Every November, he treats his Facebook friends to a full months of daily Tuber Tips. When he is not practicing law, teaching, or writing, Tom James enjoys hiking, camping, running (when he is not injured), spending time with family and dogs, and photography.
