Rev. Dr. Toni Hawkins was born in Brooklyn, New York, as the oldest daughter of eight to the late Pastor Ruben Alton Hawkins and her mother, Lula Mae Hawkins. She is a graduate of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, NJ; Howard University School of Divinity in Washington, DC and Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. She holds a Doctor of Ministry degree from Louisville Seminary. Dr. Toni is an ordained minister in the United Church of Christ. She is a board certified, licensed pastoral counselor with the American Association of Christian Therapists, and an adjunct faculty member at Louisville Seminary. Her work in self-care began in 2001 when she founded the organization, Divas for Christ Ministries, an online national women’s ministry network focused on self-care, outreach and sisterhood. Her private practice, Take Care With Self Care offers counseling, coaching, and consultation. She specializes in the areas of grief and loss; caregiver support; clergy care; relational conflict, life transitions, and women’s empowerment. She is a national speaker who offers customized services at conferences, workshops and retreats with a focus on well-being for the mind, body and spirit. Dr. Toni is author of an adult coloring book, ME TIME: Self Care Coloring Book and Journal and Self-Care Reflections for Caregivers. She is the creator of the Facebook page “Take Care With Self Care, an online community, where self-care awareness and supported is encouraged. In addition, she pastored United Church of Christ churches in Maryland and Kentucky. She is the proud mother of 2 sons and 3 grandchildren, and resides in Louisville, KY.
