V. Courtney Broaddus

关于作者

After college at Duke University and medical school and residency training at the University of Pennsylvania, Courtney moved west to the University of California San Francisco for an academic pulmonary fellowship, and stayed. Research with Dr. Norman Staub on pleural physiology led to a basic rethinking of how pleural effusions form; it also led to an opportunity to rewrite a chapter in the 1st edition of Murray & Nadel’s Textbook of Respiratory Medicine and a career-long association with the textbook, of which she is now Editor-in-chief. She later studied pleural mesothelioma with an emphasis on in vitro 3D models. For 20 years, following her mentors Drs. John Murray and Phil Hopewell, she served as Chief of the Pulmonary Division at the San Francisco General Hospital and was proudest to support the dedicated, talented and diverse faculty there. A lifelong active member of the American Thoracic Society, she is extremely proud to have been honored by the society with the Elizabeth A. Rich Award and the Trudeau Medal. Her current passion is to support the Murray & Nadel’s Textbook as a living, premier resource for the pulmonary community.
