Valerie González is a Puerto Rican writer passionate about children’s literature. Born and raised in the eastern region of Puerto Rico, she discovered her love for books, art, and storytelling from an early age. At just nine years old, her talent for writing led her to win a poetry contest during a historic moment for the island, as the community fought for the withdrawal of the U.S. Navy from Vieques. Her poem, awarded first place in its category, was preserved in the Department of Art and Culture of Puerto Rico. Now living in Texas with her husband and two children, Valerie has found in children’s literature a way to inspire young minds to dream, create, and believe in the impossible. Beyond writing, she feels a deep connection to nature, animals, and agriculture—elements that shape her worldview and fuel her desire to plant seeds of curiosity, learning, and a love for reading in children.
