I'm a professor of counseling at Mercer University, and the founding faculty member of the counseling program at Mercer University in Atlanta, GA. I have more than forty-five years experience as a counselor, counselor educator, and supervisor. I'm a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, a Nationally Board Certified Counselor, a Certified Professional Counselor Supervisor, and a clinical member of the American Association for Marriage and Family Therapists. After the earthquake in Haiti in 2010, I worked extensively for over a year in Haiti, leading teams of professionals to train pastors, teachers, and mental health providers in trauma assessment and care. In the wake of the Sandy Hook school shootings in 2012, I led teams to train pastors and community workers to assist with the trauma. Most recently, I traveled to Rwanda with a team to work with survivors of the Rwandan genocide. My books, Trauma Narrative Treatment and Gold Stone, co-authored with my wife, Dr. Donna E. Lane, were used in my work in Haiti, Newtown, CT, and Rwanda. I am a regular presenter at local, regional, national, and international workshops in the field of counseling. My wife and I have been married for 43 years and have three children, Hayden, Lindsey, and Cody. Cody passed away on 2007 after a battle with a degenerative neurological condition. We have two grandchildren, Coen and Petra. who love my children's books.
