Wil Hernandez

关于作者

Wil was born and raised in the Philippines. Prior to coming to the U.S. for graduate studies in 1995, he served full-time with an international, interdenominational parachurch organization for 18 years. He did a four-year Th.M. with a counseling ministry concentration in Dallas, Texas before moving to Pasadena, CA in 1999. In 2005, Wil finished his Ph.D. in practical theology focusing on Christian spirituality at Fuller Theological Seminary, with additional summer studies at the University of Notre Dame and Loyola Marymount University. Wil's dissertation thesis was on the spirituality of Henri Nouwen and out of that came a trilogy all published by Paulist Press: "Henri Nouwen: A Spirituality of Imperfection" (2006), "Henri Nouwen and Soul Care: A Ministry of Integration" (2008) and "Henri Nouwen and Spiritual Polarities: A Life of Tension" (2012). In 2006, he founded the Nouwen Legacy Associates (www.nouwenlegacy.com) as his personal commitment to propagate the enduring spiritual legacy of one of the greatest spiritual writers of the last century. Since then, Wil has led hundreds of retreats, seminars, and workshops all across the U.S., Canada, and Asia and have continued to teach online and on-ground courses on the spirituality of Nouwen in various Catholic and Protestant universities and seminaries here in the U.S. and abroad. He has had the privilege of doing numerous presentations on Nouwen at the Los Angeles Religious Education Congress, the Society for the Study of Christian Spirituality (under the American Academy of Religion), and the Spiritual Directors International (SDI) where he has served on the Editorial Review Panel of its Presence journal for a decade and on the planning committee of its Leadership Institute. In 2015, Wil finished his fourth book on Nouwen titled "Mere Spirituality: The Spiritual Life According to Henri Nouwen" published by Skylight Paths Publishing (now Turner Publishing) in the US, by SPCK in the UK, and Saint Pauls in the Philippines). Wil just released a new book called "Accidental Monk: A Chronicle of Struggle, Faith, and Surrender" under CQ Resources. Currently he is working on a book called "Quest for the Center: Exploring Our Spiritual Core." As a trained counselor and spiritual director, Wil devotes a significant part of his time "companioning" others on their spiritual journey. Spiritual direction has always been one of his greatest ministry passions, having gone through several programs in the field and taught at a few of them including the Center for Spiritual Development's Art of Spiritual Direction and The Source programs in Orange, CA and at Pecos Benedictine School of Spiritual Direction in Pecos, NM. A lay Benedictine Oblate of Saint Andrew's Abbey in Valyermo, CA for a decade now, Wil is also the founder, president, and executive director of CenterQuest (www.CQCenterQuest.org) - an ecumenical hub for the study and practice of Christian spirituality - which hosts the School of Spiritual Direction (SSD) hybrid program (online/residency combination) where he presently serves as its program director.
