Wolfgang Lutz, Ph.D. completed his doctorate in Psychology at the University of Heidelberg, Germany, a post-doctorate at Northwestern University, USA and a research professorship at the University of Berne (Switzerland). He is a full professor and chair of Clinical Psychology and Psychotherapy at the University of Trier/Germany as well as director of the clinical training program and the outpatient research clinic at the University of Trier. He has more than 300 publications (peer-reviewed papers, chapters and books) including the first work demonstrating the benefits of classifying different trajectories of treatment change and illustrating how decision-support tools can be adapted to different patient groups. He is one of the pioneers of patient-focused feedback research as well as the empirically-based personalization of psychological treatments and worked in this area in several countries using service research data from the US, the UK, Switzerland and Germany. He is co-editor (together with Michael Barkham and Louis Castonguay) of the prestigious Bergin & Garfield Handbook of Psychotherapy and Behavior Change, which has been the go-to work summarizing the state of the art in psychotherapy research for the past 50 years. He also served as editor and co-editor for Psychotherapy Research for over 15 years and has served or serves on the editorial board of several more international journals in the field (e.g. Clinical Psychological Science, Cognitive Therapy and Research, Journal of Psychotherapy Integration, Journal of Clinical Psychology). The Association for Psychological Science (APS) has listed him on their Faces and Minds website as a distinguished researcher and leader in the field of psychological science. He is president- elect of the international Society for Psychotherapy Research (SPR).
