Yasunari Kato was born on January 26, 1957 in Tokyo. He attended private schools in Tsujido Fujisawa City, and graduated from Sagamikoudai-Fuzoku High School in 1975. He then spent four years at Sensyu University, graduating with a bachelor's degree in management in 1980. He married in 1966. From 1990 to the present, he has been writing sutra translations. He's also translated sutra books including The Sutra of Innumerable Meanings, The Lotus Sutra, The Sutra of Meditation on the Bodhisattva Universal Virtue, and The Mahayana Mahaparinirvana Sutra. He worked for the United States Army Garrison Japan, Command Group Information Management Office at Camp Zama as an IT Specialist. He retired in 2018. Then he had been staying Rissho University Master's Course for 2 years. He has been working at DaiMyouououinn Shingonshu Temple in Yokohama since 2021.
