Yvonne Chioma Mbanefo was born in London, UK, grew up in Enugu, Nigeria and returned to England in the late 1990's. Her skills in IT as a Digital Strategist and Information designer, coupled with her love for Igbo language and culture, has fuelled her research in Igbo as a second language. Yvonne has won numerous awards for her contributions to Igbo language learning. She is one of the organisers of the Annual International Igbo conference at SOAS, University of London. She is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy, United Kingdom. She has done extensive research in the use of both digital and traditional media in modern language learning. She started creating Igbo learning materials when she couldn't find any for her children to use in learning Igbo language. Her first book, Okowaokwu Igbo Umuaka: Igbo Dictionary for Children, went on the bestseller list on Amazon.com within 24 hours of being released.
