I've had a lifelong love for puzzles, riddles, brain teasers, recreational math, games – everything like that! Growing up, my dad enjoyed asking me trick questions – usually a little riddle or a cutesy limerick he made up. This was light fun, but things went to the next level when he brought home a game from the store called "Mind Trap", a wonderfully underrated game that you can't really find on the store shelves anymore. Mind Trap is a board game where you have to answer questions written on cards as you advance through the game's path. We never played the game the way you were meant to play it, we just sat down at night on the couch going through the cards in-between episodes of The X-Files. The questions mix word play, logic, recreational math, and sometimes (my favorites) problem-solving of a Sherlock Holmes-esque nature. These books I make are meant to recreate that environment I grew up in, hopefully producing those same kinds of nights for kids and adults. Thinking and problem-solving should be a fun, welcoming challenge – not something that people grow up dreading and avoiding!
