How to use Echo devices like an intercom

Drop In is a great feature for families. Use it to open an instant conversation between your compatible devices or with your Alexa contacts.

To give Drop In permission to call yourself (and your household) or a contact (and that contact's household), select the applicable contact card and turn on Drop In. In addition, you can give Drop In permission to call yourself (and your household) by simply saying, "Alexa, drop in on Home." To turn off Drop In for your household, you can say, "Alexa, disable drop in." You can also turn on Do Not Disturb on one or all Echo devices by saying, "Alexa, turn on Do Not Disturb."

Follow the steps below:
  1. In the Alexa app, select the Communication icon.
  2. Select the Drop In icon.
  3. Select the name of the contact you want to drop in on.
  4. Just ask:

    “Alexa, drop in.”

“Alexa, drop in on the kitchen.”

    “Alexa, drop in on Echo.”

    “Alexa, hang up.”

Drop In is available on all Echo devices
