I am enjoying Ina's memoir. I love reading about strong, determined, passionate women who over come life's adversities and make their dreams come true.
Ina's journey is extraordinary. She never gave up her dream. She is an inspiration to women who want to find their authentic selves and live their life to the fullest.
I ordered her first cookbook today. As a new retiree taking care of my husband who has Cancer, I want to learn to enjoy the art of cooking and make wonderful meals for us.
I'm almost done with her book and I want to thank her for sharing her story with us. She is truly a lovely, humble and inspiring women. A wonderful book!!!

#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • In her long-awaited memoir, Ina Garten—aka the Barefoot Contessa, author of thirteen bestselling cookbooks, beloved Food Network personality, Instagram sensation, and cultural icon—shares her personal story with readers hungry for a seat at her table.
A BEST BOOK OF THE YEAR: The New York Times Book Review, Time, The New Yorker, Vanity Fair, Town & Country
Here, for the first time, Ina Garten presents an intimate, entertaining, and inspiring account of her remarkable journey. Ina’s gift is to make everything look easy, yet all her accomplishments have been the result of hard work, audacious choices, and exquisite attention to detail. In her unmistakable voice (no one tells a story like Ina), she brings her past and her process to life in a high-spirited and no-holds-barred memoir that chronicles decades of personal challenges, adventures (and misadventures) and unexpected career twists, all delivered with her signature combination of playfulness and purpose.
From a difficult childhood to meeting the love of her life, Jeffrey, and marrying him while still in college, from a boring bureaucratic job in Washington, D.C., to answering an ad for a specialty food store in the Hamptons, from the owner of one Barefoot Contessa shop to author of bestselling cookbooks and celebrated television host, Ina has blazed her own trail and, in the meantime, taught millions of people how to cook and entertain. Now, she invites them to come closer to experience her story in vivid detail and to share the important life lessons she learned along the way: do what you love because if you love it you’ll be really good at it, swing for the fences, and always Be Ready When the Luck Happens.

Did not want this book to end!
I have been cooking and baking nonstop since starting this book. I already owned two of Garten’s cookbooks, Make It Ahead and Back to Basics, but I had not made many recipes from either, because I don’t eat meat, wheat, dairy or sugar. (I know, it’s a drag.) But because she talks a lot, in the book, about obsessively testing her recipes and her goal of the recipes turning out perfectly every time for home cooks, I became curious to see if they were as bulletproof as they sounded. THEY ARE! Everything I’ve made so far from her cookbooks has been a homerun with my husband and friends! The French Chicken Pot Pies have caused swooning. The Outrageous Brownies are UNBELIEVABLY GOOD. (I’ve been taking little bites each night, along with a lactaid pill!) For years though, I’ve made her Chipotle Spiced Nuts and they are so delicious and addictive it’s crazy. Now I’m eager to cook my way through both cookbooks—and order more. But wait, let’s talk about her memoir. It’s so good. I just wanted to keep reading about her wonderful adventures and life. She had a difficult start, with her parents, but it makes her serendipitous visit to the college campus where Jeffrey first saw her, and their subsequent life together, all the more gratifying. I love great origin stories of successful people, and hers is fantastic. Cannot get this book fast enough—you’ll love it! And I’ve been thinking I’ll give it to my mom and mothers-in-law for Christmas. It’s a thought-provoking, empowering read particularly for girls and women and anyone who has felt underestimated.

2025年1月16日在美国发布评论I was familiar with Ina Garten and had seen her cooking show several times, but I only casually followed her. I read this memoir for book club and was pleasantly surprised. I found the narrative flowed very easily and gave me a solid idea of how Ina charted her life path out of a difficult childhood, then as a wife and an individual. Her voice comes through with warmth and charm, as if she is telling you her story over coffee. The life choices she and Jeffrey made are not conventional, but worked for them, and they were blessed to have the resources to carry them out for most of their life. Even though they built their own wealth, their experiences are not necessarily the same as those of the average person. As a reader, however, I still felt like I could relate to Ina and celebrate her successes. Some might consider her mentions of her celebrity friends and contacts as name-dropping, but that didn't bother me as these people became part of her world because of the life choices she made. Overall, this memoir is a very enjoyable and comfortable read.

2025年2月11日在美国发布评论And here I thought Ina Garten was just the best cooking queen out there on the Food Netwook that I had been watching for years! Little did I know what was lurking behind the woman who had gotten there before then!! With no holding back, she takes us all the way back and shares her humble beginnings, not all pretty, nonetheless, honest and open. I could go on and on here but there just isn’t enough space and time to do it. Even if you aren’t a fan of Ina’s, you will be captivated by her memoir! I promise…it’s time well spent!

2025年2月12日在美国发布评论I love Ina Garten. From what I knew before reading the book, Ina had a tough childhood. But her sunny spirit, determination and hard work, her ability to recognize opportunities and the fearlessness with seizing them when they came along are what's brought her the success she's had. I admire that so much. I wanted to hear Ina read this book in her own voice, so I accepted an Audible free trial. However, I confirmed that I don't enjoy being read to, so cancelled the subscription before the trial was over.
I loved the book. Ina deserves the beautiful, joyus life that she's made for herself.

2025年2月5日在美国发布评论I found Ina Garten's memoir to be an insightful and enjoyable read, offering a glimpse into her fascinating life. As one of my favorite sources for new recipes, I anticipated this book with excitement, and it certainly delivered. I enjoyed every moment from beginning to end.
I also want to emphasize that I refrain from writing critical reviews of memoirs. Each author's story is unique and personal, and I believe in appreciating the journey they share with us. Instead of critiquing, I prefer to celebrate the experiences they choose to convey.

2025年1月6日在美国发布评论This is a very quick read for Ina Garten fans. I was constantly reminded of her catch phrase, how easy was that! It isn't that she totally avoids the dark moments, she speaks clearly but not at length about her miserable childhool with a repressed mother and a father who sometimes became violent. Or the time she insisted she and Jeffrey separate so she could find her authentic self. Which had something to do with the feminist movement and Gloria Steinem. This was several years after her impulsive buy of a specialty food store in the far off Hamptons, while Jeffrey continued to pursue his career in DC. And later in New York City or at Princeton or in far off places. Another 3 star reviewer mentioned that she never discusses how money has always been available in her life. Her father was an ENT surgeon, if I recall correctly, and Jeffrey has been amazingly successful. Here is a man who, wanting a break to consider his next career move, blithely states he would go teach at Columbia while thinking about it. Right! Somehow, Ina and Jeffrey always know the right people. Nevertheless, Ina did work very hard to make the Barefoot Contessa a success. She is an emotional, impulsive person with a surprisingly analytical approach to solving the problems in front of her nose. Problems that usually appeared after impulsive decisions were put into place. Apparently, she has always, and I mean always, had Jeffrey's support in whatever she wanted to do. Including a separation for a few months. The beginning of the book starts off with their being together almost all the time, and includes a fantastic camping trip through France and Switzerland which lasted four enchanted months. The book ends with the couple pursuing different lifes during the week, and supposedly rejoining on weekends. Although it is not clear to me if that means every weekend, most weekends, or once in a while. As time went on, they bought, renovated, and furnished an apartrment in Paris, the ultimate success symbol for a couple who started out with a tent! She has had a remarkable life. And a remarkable husband.

5.0 颗星,最多 5 颗星 Memoir of Ina Garten, Be Ready When the Luck Happens
Very much enjoyed reading Ina's memoir written in her words, as she explains in the book she likes to do things her way, her standards, and to her satisfaction. I had fun comparing my life to hers along the way. For example, Barefoot Contessa/Barefoot and pregnant. Jeffry and Ina went to France for a honeymoon and we went to Cape Breton which has scattered with French communities. Her septic field backed up with overuse and crowd of visitors and our septic field also backed up just before we signed off the sale of our house. She loves cooking and baking, I am more of a baker. You see how she just figures things out, learn about the love of her life and how supportive they are to each other, their struggles and accomplishments. I love her soft spoken voice and you can imagine each sentence as if she is speaking. You learn of her childhood upbringing, when opportunity knocks for her and her life on 2 continents. Even though she often says, "How easy is that", I think her attitude towards circumstances is where her luck happens.
