#1 NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER From the beloved author of Big Little Lies, Apples Never Fall, and The Husband’s Secret comes a moving novel of love, marriage, family, and trying to find certainty in a fragile world.

“A riveting story so wild you don’t know how she’ll land it, and then she does, on a dime.”—Anne Lamott

Life is full of twists and turns you never see coming. But what if you did?

The plane is jam-packed. Every seat is taken. So of course the flight is delayed! Flight attendant Allegra Patel likes her job—she’s generally happy with her life, even if she can’t figure out why she hooks up with a man she barely speaks to—but today is her twenty-eighth birthday. She can think of plenty of things she’d rather be doing than placating a bunch of grumpy passengers.

There’s the well-dressed man in seat 4C who is compulsively checking his watch, desperate not to miss his eleven-year-old daughter’s musical. Further back, a mother of two is frantically trying to keep her toddler entertained and her infant son quiet. How did she ever think being a stay-at-home mom would be easier than being a lawyer? Ethan is lost in thought; he’s flying back from his first funeral. A young couple has just gotten married; she’s still wearing her wedding dress. An emergency room nurse is looking forward to traveling the world once she retires in a few years, it’s going to be so much fun! If they ever get off the tarmac. . . .

Suddenly a woman none of them know stands up. She makes predictions about how and when everyone on board will die. Some dismiss her. Others will do everything they can to make sure her prophecies do not come to pass. All of them will be forever changed.

How would you live your life if you thought you knew how it would end? Would you love who you love or try to love someone else? Would you stay married? Would you stop drinking? Would you call up your ex-best friend you haven’t spoken to in years? Would you quit your job?

Intricately plotted, with the wonderful wit Liane Moriarty has become famous for, Here One Moment brilliantly looks at friends, lovers, and family and how we manage to hold onto them in our harried modern lives.

She’s done it again!

She’s done it again!
Based on experience, I will like any Liane Moriarty book. My prediction was not wrong because once again she under-promises and over-delivers. I flew through the 500 pages in 3 days and plan to re-read it soon. Suffice to say she deals with a deep topic (what does it mean to face our mortality?) but does it in a wonderful, heartfelt, often hilarious way. My personal favorite parts of her books are the wry asides she builds in about the nature of work, careers, and family perceptions about careers. You can see her consulting background! Anyway, read this if you want a guaranteed delight that will keep you thinking. (Also, to the big algorithm out there: I wrote this ALL BY MYSELF without recourse to the amazon AI prompts. Literary Luddite here.)

Wow, talk about a book that hooks you from the get-go! Just imagining myself on that packed flight, stuck on the tarmac, gives me chills. But Liane Moriarty makes it all so real—almost like you’re in the cramped airplane seat right next to these unforgettable characters.

The story unfolds with Allegra, the birthday girl flight attendant, who’s watching a mix of passengers—each one a little universe of their own dramas and dreams. There’s a man nervously clutching his watch, a frazzled mom juggling two restless kids, a fresh-from-the-altar bride still glowing in her wedding dress. Everyone has their story, and just as you’re settling into their lives, here comes the twist: a mysterious woman stands up and predicts how and when everyone on board will die. (Yeah, you read that right!)

From there, it’s a rollercoaster. You’re taken deep into each person’s mind as they grapple with how to handle this wild revelation. Some are in full denial, others try to change fate, and a few start rethinking the big choices in their lives. Would you? It really makes you think: if you knew when you’d go, what would you do differently?

Moriarty’s signature wit and warmth shine in Here One Moment. It’s not just about fate and mortality; it’s about the messy, beautiful relationships that make life worth living. This is one of those rare books that makes you laugh, cry, and question everything in between. Whether you’re a Moriarty fan or new to her work, this one’s a wild ride with all the feels.

A woman on a plane wanders the aisles in something of a fugue state pointing at passengers and giving them the time and cause of their deaths. No one thinks much about it (except that she is exceptionally rude and weird) until her predictions begin to come true. Is it fate or can the predetermined deaths be avoided? And who was the woman who made the predictions? Filled with interesting characters and an absorbing story, HERE ONE MOMENT is an excellent vacation read. It's a page turner, and a conversation starter but not so gripping that you won't stop for a meal or a swim in the ocean (I read it in Fiji). Regardless of whether the story stays with you, the idea of knowing one's own time and cause of death will stay with you and make you think about what it is you really value in life and what you would do if you knew your own mortality. How would it change the way you live your everyday life? So interesting!

Relatable characters and storylines with an exciting twist. Loved hearing from the “other” point of view and the background story leading up to the main events. The writing style was imaginative and interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed!

This book was hard to put down. The various characters and subplot lines were intriguing. Enjoyed the character development of them all, but especially the protagonist. The author always does a great job with backstory, twists and turns and some surprises.

I was looking forward to my first book from this best selling author and I was intrigued by the premise of a clairvoyant aboard a plane giving death dates with circumstances and age at time of death to each passenger and crew member.
With an exciting plot like that what could possibly go wrong? A lot. I did not feel connected to more than one or two characters in the book because this author did not flesh them out- they are interchangeable cardboard cut- outs.
Cherry the psychic, has her life interspersed throughly the book. She’s weird and odd but not interesting.
I had to skim the last hundred or so pages and it shows we can change our fate to some degree.
I enjoy large books but literature that holds my interest- this was a snooze fest. I read a few pages a day.
I dislike giving a bad review- I much prefer giving accolades because writing a novel is hard work.
I upped my rating to a three because in two separate instance's I cared about two death predictions. One came true and one fought fate.

An older woman on a plane goes down the aisle during the flight and tells passengers their cause of death age of death. The book has many characters and thus many story lines following these unwitting passengers as they cope with the predictions given to each of them.

The book alternates between a passenger story and then takes the reader back in time to share the life story of the “fortune teller”. While she seems to have predicted many of the deaths correctly, the reader is left to question was the deaths truly predicted or perhaps an obvious happenstance (a centurion couple that dies of common ailments would be expected vs a vibrant young woman dying in a car accident).

Moriarty has a great writing style that pulled me into the story. Because there were so many characters and each chapter would deal with part of one story and then go to the fortune teller then the next chapter to a different character, it helped to move the book along. It also kept me wanting to read more to find out what would happen to one character when it was revisited 5-6 chapters along in the book.

I give it 4 stars because it took me 80 pages to get into and to start to connect with the characters. Once they got off the airplane and you get to see how many lives unfolds, it got exciting. Hang in there as it is worth the wait!!

This author never disappoints. She gives me everything I want in a story. Interesting characters that develop, surprises, laughter, usually tears, insight into my own nature and the human experience, things to ponder...I hope she keeps writing for many years to come

This book had a very unique plot which at times seemed implausible but the character development and the self awareness of the author and her bizarre insights into human nature made the book a pleasure to read.

This is one of the most beautiful, powerful, well written stories I have ever read. And I read a lot! The story is expertly told, the writers craft is beyond excellent and the characters are real and deep and well developed. I was left with a sense of deep appreciation for life and love.
