I love Freida McFadden and will continue to read her work. Her books get me every single time. I always think I have her characters figured out and then suddenly my jaw drops and I am left dumbfounded and wondering how she manages to fool me each time. My reason for the 4 star review wasn’t the content of it but the condition of the physical book I receive. The edges seemed to have some kind of mold and I wasn’t sure I should keep it or keep around the house just in case.

    Wow! This one kept me guessing, and I still guessed wrong.

    This book was a super quick read as the writer's style was not only entertaining, but witty and captivating.

    It's been a while since I wasn't on to the "who done it" in a book.

    This was a good one! I read it in a day!

    I thought I had it this time. I SWEAR I HAD IT THIS TIME. But, also, in the deep corner of my mind, I knew it wouldn't be this easy. Frieda wouldn't make it this easy. This is a trap. "It's a trap!"

    I will admit the story was dull. It wasn't bland enough to put down, but I still genuinely enjoyed it. However, it could have been better. I wish there had been more character development, but I enjoyed how unorthodox the writing style was. Sydney's inner monologue was similar to my own (it's goofy and dumb, and I can relate to it in my own way, regardless of the readers who think Sydney is stupid). The writing was very relaxed and set in what I believe is a modern thought process.

    I liked the dual POV because Tom's past and Sydney's present moved toward each other until they met in the middle, and everything started to make sense (sort of).

    3.75 stars for the writing style (that I related to personally), plot twist, and dual POV (past and present meeting in the middle). It would have been an actual four-star rating if there had been more character development.

    I CAN NOT believe Tom went back with Daisy in the end. I was really hoping for some character development on his part, but I also understand the Bonnie and Clyde vibe going on between them. The only character development I saw was with Jake because he realized how he prioritized work over his relationship with Sydney. I don't know how I feel about them being back together, but I am glad he grew in that department, whether with her or someone else.

    I really wasn't expecting Daisy to still be alive. I truly believed Randy was Slug because we were never given Slug's real name (from what I can remember), and he had bought that ant farm (when Slug was obsessed with bugs), but of course, Frieda wouldn't make it that easy for us. She wrote Daisy and Slug from a perspective where we believed them to be a certain way when they turned out to be the opposite (Daisy being sweet and innocent when she turned out to be a total psychopath and Slug being a perv but NOT a psychopath).

    Also, Kevin was a completely pointless character. I understand him being an example of the bad dates she had been on, but other than that, his following her around and stalking her was pointless. Nothing came of it except for Tom killing him for her at the end of the book.

    Overall, I enjoyed the book. It took a little bit to get into, but the dual POV definitely helped in that department (his past was more interesting than her blabbing about bad dates).

    I read this book in a day because I could not put it down! I'm usually able to figure out the ending to a book early on, and I thought I had this one figured out but boy, was I wrong! McFadden has crafted a thrilling, page turner with this book. The characters, are well formed, and I liked the writing style of going between past and present day. This was my first Freda McFadden book and it absolutely will not be my last!!

    This novel took a while to build up the plot but really took off from middle to end. It is worth working through the first third of the text to the experience the roller coaster ride through the middle and end of the book. Thoroughly surprised and pleased with the finishing twists and turns of this novel. A great read for those who appreciate a suspenseful mystery and psychological thriller.

    I’m enjoying her books and liked this one. My only complaint is that it is pretty formulaic as to a quick aha wrap up at the end. All that was missing was maniacal laughter. Seriously it is a good narrative but I kinda rolled my eyes a little at the ending as to plausibility and almost as if it had to get done by a deadline. Nevertheless she’s a good writer and it was entertaining.

    I really enjoy reading Freida's books. The Boyfriend was intense and had me guessing the whole way through. This book had the most shocking twist, in my opinion, and it was GREAT! I will always be a fan of Freida and enjoy her style of writing, her twisted and turns, and the thrill that comes with her books.

    This, THIS IS PERFECT. OMG. INCREDIBLE. THE TWIST OF THIS BOOK IS DONE IMPECCABLY! I am obsessed with this. I will be recommending this to every single person I know. Is the FMC a little annoying and slightly insufferable with her "will a man ever love me" droning, but I NEVER. Saw the twist coming. Maybe because of the title... I don't know, but this was time well spent on a fantastic book!! Spice is almost entirely closed door, but I didn't mind it!! Usually, I prefer open-door, in your face smut, but the plot of this one was so well written I didn't care!

    I really wanted to give this book 5 stars, but I couldn’t get past how frustratingly naive Sydney was made to be. Throughout the story, there were so many red flags and questionable moments that she just ignored, and it was infuriating. I kept wanting her to dig deeper, to ask the obvious questions, but instead, she let things slide in a way that felt completely unrealistic. It was hard to stay fully immersed in the story because I kept getting frustrated with her choices—or lack of them.

    That being said, the twist completely blew me away. I never saw it coming. I had so many theories while reading, and every time I thought I’d cracked the mystery, the story took another unexpected turn. None of my guesses came close to the truth, which is a rare and exciting experience as a reader. The unpredictability and tension had me hooked, and I found myself racing to finish just to see how it would all play out.

    Overall, while Sydney’s characterization made it hard to fully enjoy the book, the clever plotting and shocking twists more than made up for it. If you love stories that keep you guessing and constantly surprise you, this one is absolutely worth picking up. I just wish the main character’s actions had been more believable, as that would’ve pushed this to a solid 5-star read for me.

    I started with Never lie from the author and went on to the next , the boyfriend. It was an amazing book for any one who enjoys a twist even at the last minute, even when you think you have figured it all out, it comes when you least expect it. But the book grounds us in a reality from how different characters react finally according to my pov. Perhaps an optimistic reader would have expected 'the boyfriend' to finally find happiness, I mean he does in his own way, I think, but this is also why I think the book ground us in a reality that says there are some things in life, some bonds for better or worst we can't easily get rid of and we all are not capable of overcoming it. Some of us just dive more into the depths.

    I do love Freida McFadden! Did discover her pretty late in my thriller era, yet, I managed to read almost all of her books by now.

    The Boyfriend was another great story. And yes, I thought I did figure it out early. Let' say.... I was partly right. But the big twist ion the end, I did not see coming yet again. I also loved the way Sydney thought and spoke as in, the humorous undertone at times. Because at least I think, even with a thriller, it does not hurt when the mood is a little lighter sometimes.

    Now, looking foward to Freida's next one!
