The Boyfriend: A Psychological Thriller Kindle电子书
She's looking for the perfect man. He's looking for the perfect victim.
Sydney Shaw, like every single woman in New York, has terrible luck with dating. She’s seen it all: men who lie in their dating profile, men who stick her with the dinner bill, and worst of all, men who can't shut up about their mothers. But finally, she hits the jackpot.
Her new boyfriend is utterly perfect. He's charming, handsome, and works as a doctor at a local hospital. Sydney is swept off her feet.
Then the brutal murder of a young woman―the latest in a string of deaths across the coast―confounds police. The primary suspect? A mystery man who dates his victims before he kills them.
Sydney should feel safe. After all, she is dating the guy of her dreams. But she can’t shake her own suspicions that the perfect man may not be as perfect as he seems. Because someone is watching her every move, and if she doesn’t get to the truth, she’ll be the killer’s next victim...
A dark story about obsession and the things we’ll do for love, #1 New York Times bestselling author Freida McFadden proves that crimes of passion are often the bloodiest…

2025年2月28日在美国发布评论This may have been my first Freida McFadden book, but - wow! It sure won’t be the last! Well-written, gripping story and kept my guessing until the last second and I still wasn’t sure I knew what happened! I bought and read this based on a friends recommendation and they were so right! What a great book, the kind where you are dying to see how it all ends but you don’t really want to finish reading it! Enjoy!!!

Freida McFadden does it again! The Boyfriend is an absolute rollercoaster of suspense, twists, and jaw-dropping moments that kept me glued to the pages from start to finish.
The story follows an intriguing setup—an innocent date that turns into a complete nightmare. McFadden masterfully builds tension with her signature fast pacing and sharp writing, making it impossible to put down. Just when I thought I had everything figured out, the plot twisted in a way that left me absolutely speechless.
What I love most about McFadden’s thrillers is her ability to create unreliable narrators, and The Boyfriend is no exception. The characters are complex, and the psychological elements make you question everything you think you know. Every chapter ends on a note that compels you to keep going, making this a perfect one-sitting read.
If you love domestic thrillers packed with shocking revelations, The Boyfriend is a must-read. Highly recommended for fans of Gone Girl and The Silent Patient!

2024年10月21日在美国发布评论I thought I had it this time. I SWEAR I HAD IT THIS TIME. But, also, in the deep corner of my mind, I knew it wouldn't be this easy. Frieda wouldn't make it this easy. This is a trap. "It's a trap!"
I will admit the story was dull. It wasn't bland enough to put down, but I still genuinely enjoyed it. However, it could have been better. I wish there had been more character development, but I enjoyed how unorthodox the writing style was. Sydney's inner monologue was similar to my own (it's goofy and dumb, and I can relate to it in my own way, regardless of the readers who think Sydney is stupid). The writing was very relaxed and set in what I believe is a modern thought process.
I liked the dual POV because Tom's past and Sydney's present moved toward each other until they met in the middle, and everything started to make sense (sort of).
3.75 stars for the writing style (that I related to personally), plot twist, and dual POV (past and present meeting in the middle). It would have been an actual four-star rating if there had been more character development.

I CAN NOT believe Tom went back with Daisy in the end. I was really hoping for some character development on his part, but I also understand the Bonnie and Clyde vibe going on between them. The only character development I saw was with Jake because he realized how he prioritized work over his relationship with Sydney. I don't know how I feel about them being back together, but I am glad he grew in that department, whether with her or someone else.
I really wasn't expecting Daisy to still be alive. I truly believed Randy was Slug because we were never given Slug's real name (from what I can remember), and he had bought that ant farm (when Slug was obsessed with bugs), but of course, Frieda wouldn't make it that easy for us. She wrote Daisy and Slug from a perspective where we believed them to be a certain way when they turned out to be the opposite (Daisy being sweet and innocent when she turned out to be a total psychopath and Slug being a perv but NOT a psychopath).
Also, Kevin was a completely pointless character. I understand him being an example of the bad dates she had been on, but other than that, his following her around and stalking her was pointless. Nothing came of it except for Tom killing him for her at the end of the book.
Overall, I enjoyed the book. It took a little bit to get into, but the dual POV definitely helped in that department (his past was more interesting than her blabbing about bad dates).

2025年2月21日在美国发布评论Oh my. This was just so good, chef’s kiss, really her? I wasn’t surprised but my it was satisfying to know that Tom wasn’t the obvious lead, I thought it was Randy for a minute specially after the ants farm but it wasn’t him and just wow, Tom is crazy for choosing her! After all this time and all this murders he still chose her?! Like absolutely ridiculous, but I got to say I am glad that Kevin is out of the picture, that guy was insufferable. I was hoping they catch Daisy, i mean you cannot run for so long right? But she’s been killing for a long time, far too long so she must know where to go and how to hide, it’s just awful that all we got was them running away and completely dumb, I know that if someone was killing for me I wouldn’t be running off with them, but then again Tom is not normal. I just thought it was just a bad decision but overall is a nice book, I really thought it was Randy tho he had me on but it wasn’t so safe to said that this author did it again, really recommend it!

2025年2月28日在美国发布评论I have to take a break from reading these fantastic books. They are so filled with change It's almost impossible to figure out who did what. I only wish Freida Would stop using God's name in almost every other paragraph. The stories themselves are great.

2025年2月27日在美国发布评论I couldn't get enough of this book! I love psychological thrillers and this is one of the BEST! I used to read all the time but came down with a chronic condition, got depressed, and stopped reading. This is the first book I've picked up in ages that drew me into it so deeply that I forgot about my own issues and just enjoyed reading!! Thank you, Frieda!!

2.0 颗星,最多 5 颗星 The scrunchie
Honestly, I didn't think the word scrunchie was gonna be such a bother. I understand that we needed a twist and something to hold on to. However, it became ridiculous after a while. The drama was good, though.

Bit condescending towards women
It’s an ok read if you’re stuck on a plane. It’s a book that’s written to a formula- the person who you least expect is the one that does it. It’s not a well crafted book either. In all, I found the characters to be very stereotypical and lacking in depth.
