For
David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare -- poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside magazine to name him "The Fittest (Real) Man in America."

In
Can't Hurt Me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40% of our capabilities. Goggins calls this The 40% Rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential.

"David Goggins is a being of pure will and inspiration. Just listening to this guy talk makes you want to run up a mountain. I firmly believe people like him can change the course of the world just by inspiring us to push harder and dig deeper in everything we do. His goal to be 'uncommon amongst uncommon people' is something we can all use to propel ourselves to fulfill our true potential. I'm a better man having met him."
--Joe Rogan, Standup Comedian and Host of the Joe Rogan Experience Podcast

"David Goggins lives out every goal, every dream no matter what. PERIOD. He's unstoppable. There's no limit to him because he doesn't live in a comfort zone. His mental and physical capacity are equal. Goggins proves that your body can handle anything if you let your mind keep up. There's no way to stop something or someone that doesn't understand the concept of being beat."
--Marcus Luttrell, Retired Navy SEAL, Author of New York Times Best Seller Lone Survivor

"Modern neuroscience is teaching us that the path to courage and success arrives through embracing pain and fear, not by avoiding them. If ever there was a real-life example of this, it is the story of David Goggins. In his unrelenting pursuit to self-conquer, Goggins taught himself how to tap into that elusive holy grail of human existence: the ability to rewire one's own brain in order to continually do better and actually become better, regardless of feelings, external conditions, or motivational state.
Can't Hurt Me is the remarkable description of that journey and the capacity to leverage and better the mind. More importantly, it also teaches you how."
--Andrew D. Huberman, PhD, Professor of Neurobiology, Stanford University School of Medicine

"David Goggins throws the door open on pain, evil, darkness, the worst and yes, the best of humanity, and the strength of the human soul...and that's just in chapter one. If you are looking for a book that will heal, stretch, inspire, and dig into the corners of what it takes to persevere and overcome in a messed-up world, this is your book."
--Taya Kyle, Widow of American Sniper Chris Kyle, Author of New York Times Best Seller American Wife

"By the time you finish David Goggins's new book, you'll have kicked your victim mentality in the butt. Where you go from there is entirely up to you--as Goggins makes clear in this entertaining and poignant memoir cum inspirational how-to. As the man with a hole in his heart tells you, there are no excuses in life, only reasons to try harder."
--Jim DeFelice, Author of American Sniper

"David Goggins's book is not the first about overcoming severe hardships to achieve success, but it is certainly one of the most compelling. His story of beating the odds, of achieving athletic greatness, of serving his country and his charities, and of mastering his own destiny will inspire all of us to reach a little higher and give a little more. 'I will never quit' is a tenet of the Navy SEAL ethos, and one that David Goggins applies to everything he does."
--Admiral Eric Olson, U.S. Navy (Retired); Former Commander, United States Special Operations Command; Chairman, Special Operations Warrior Foundation

"I'm inspired that people like this guy exist. Not everyone will live a life like David Goggins, but he is proof that anyone could if given the right headspace within."
--Kelly Slater, Eleven-Time World Champion Surfer

"Guaranteed to galvanize more than a few couch potatoes into action."

This is a tool for people with thick skin and strong internal drive and lotus of control
People have been writing self-help books for so long and in so many different ways that’s it hard to know what is going to actually help you. A lot of ideals shared in these books, while interesting make no lasting impact. I find most self-help books to be too intellectual, in that they don’t often appeal to the common man or the literarily disinclined. This is important because that means there are entire groups of individuals who will not be reached by these materials because they are not applicable to their lives. I also usually find self-help books to be soft in their approach for my needs. This is not the case with David Goggin’s Can’t Hurt Me. I learned about David through a friend and listened to him through podcasts first and became very interested in his story. I have followed many episodes he’s done since and followed him on social media for his “motivational” musings. The truth is, David Goggins is by no means motivational. David Goggins is deliberate and driven in everything he does no matter how insane it seems. Through his talks and contributions to this book it is clear he cannot be molded into anyone’s idea of a motivator or life coach. He is not overly optimistic; instead shrewd in his approach to life, speaking, and writing. Even with a ghost writer, David Goggins cannot be sensored enough to be appropriate for all audiences. For those that share David’s masochistic competitivism and no sugar-coating mindset, this book is an imperative addition to the self-help/memoir genre. I enjoy the audiobook for the podcast style conversation that you cannot get from this hardback but also I wanted to have a copy for my collection as well as be able to sit down and do the challenges that are included. If you’re serious about the information, both are necessary. Either way you enjoy it, if you can get over the harsh language (which for me added something because I was raised with this kind of language and mindset), you will find both a compelling biography of pure human will and strength, advice, and action items on how to be the best version of yourself you can be. This works for those who come from a similar upbringing and respond to this kind of leadership. As Goggins himself explains through his years of service, he is not an ideal leader for all personality types. He’s a hard “MF” and that comes with some hard “MF” language. This may not be the self-help book the snowflake generation deserves but its the one we need right now while hard-work, self-discipline, and delaying gratification seem all but forgotten.

David Goggins' "Can't Hurt Me" is a powerful memoir that transcends the boundaries of inspiration and self-improvement. It is a raw and unflinchingly honest account of Goggins' remarkable journey from a troubled past to becoming an unstoppable force. This book has left an indelible mark on my life, pushing me to confront my limitations, redefine my boundaries, and tap into the depths of my untapped potential. With every turn of the page, Goggins challenges readers to embrace discomfort, push through adversity, and unlock their inner strength.

One of the most captivating aspects of "Can't Hurt Me" is Goggins' relentless determination to overcome his personal demons. He shares his harrowing experiences growing up in an abusive household, his battle with obesity, and the enduring struggles he faced throughout his life. With each setback and challenge, Goggins demonstrates an unwavering commitment to self-improvement and personal growth. His story serves as a testament to the power of resilience and the human spirit's capacity to triumph over seemingly insurmountable odds.

Goggins' relentless pursuit of mental and physical toughness is another compelling theme throughout the book. He shares his experiences as a Navy SEAL, ultra-endurance athlete, and overcoming physical limitations through extreme training and sheer willpower. His mindset of embracing pain and discomfort as a catalyst for growth is both awe-inspiring and thought-provoking. Goggins' unapologetic honesty about his own shortcomings and the grueling journey to self-mastery forces readers to confront their own self-imposed limitations and question their true potential.

Beyond the remarkable personal story, "Can't Hurt Me" provides a wealth of practical strategies and principles for personal development. Goggins introduces concepts such as "The 40% Rule," emphasizing that we often underestimate our capabilities and that true growth lies in pushing beyond our perceived limits. He also delves into the importance of self-discipline, accountability, and the necessity of embracing discomfort to unlock personal transformation. Goggins' advice and insights serve as a blueprint for those seeking to break free from mediocrity and unlock their full potential.

In conclusion, "Can't Hurt Me" is a life-altering book that challenges readers to step outside their comfort zones and embrace a life of relentless pursuit. David Goggins' extraordinary journey, combined with his unwavering resilience and practical advice, creates an unparalleled reading experience. This book has the power to ignite a fire within its readers, empowering them to confront their fears, overcome adversity, and unleash their unbreakable spirit. If you're ready to embark on a journey of personal growth and tap into your limitless potential, "Can't Hurt Me" is an absolute must-read. Prepare to be inspired, transformed, and forever changed by David Goggins' extraordinary story of triumph.

At the age of 76 I never thought that I would come across a book that would motivate me as this one did. As I began reading it, hoping to get inspiration, I became enthralled with David’s life story. This man is quite exceptional due to all that he has endured and accomplished throughout his life. Even though I am a 76 year old white man, who was not accepted into the military, our lives have had similar experiences. I just can’t put into words how much I admire, and respect a man with such dedication and determination. Please, if you are looking for motivation, affirmations or just good entertainment you should read this book. The only thing you will be disappointed in, as I was, is when you get to the end of the book and there is nothing more to read.

Stay Hard! Merry Christmas! If you know anything about David Goggins, then you know what I’m talk about it. If not, then get ready to meet a man who could change your life.

Can’t Hurt Me (364 pages) is the (living) autobiography of David Goggins – and he is having quite a life. But recounting his life accomplishments is not the principle subject of this book. Instead, David focuses on what he had to endure to achieve. From the book’s cover:

For David Goggins, childhood was a nightmare - poverty, prejudice, and physical abuse colored his days and haunted his nights. But through self-discipline, mental toughness, and hard work, Goggins transformed himself from a depressed, overweight young man with no future into a U.S. Armed Forces icon and one of the world's top endurance athletes. The only man in history to complete elite training as a Navy SEAL, Army Ranger, and Air Force Tactical Air Controller, he went on to set records in numerous endurance events, inspiring Outside magazine to name him The Fittest (Real) Man in America.

In Can't Hurt Me, he shares his astonishing life story and reveals that most of us tap into only 40% of our capabilities. Goggins calls this The 40% Rule, and his story illuminates a path that anyone can follow to push past pain, demolish fear, and reach their full potential.

Still not convinced you should this book? Go to YouTube and watch David Goggins.

He has appeared on several top rated YouTube channels and podcasts. If you like what you see, you will like this book. Can’t Hurt Me is a raw account of David’s life and the writing style is a seamless transition from the David you have seen in video.

David is living proof that accomplishing big (or really any) goals is possible through hard work. Based on his background and early life, David should have been a statistic in his words. He grew up with an abusive father in a broken home in a community full of prejudice and poverty. But, you can’t hurt David Goggins. What I like about this book is not only the story of triumph, but also the path forward outlined for the reader. At the end of each chapter are mini-challenges that you can implement today to begin changing your situation and chasing your goals the way David did.

For instance, the Accountability Mirror (#accountabilitymirror) is a tactic used by  David to set and achieve goals. It’s simple: Write your goal on a Post-It note, then put it on your bathroom mirror. Sounds easy, right? Try it; it works, especially if you have others in the house that use this mirror...

Or, try the Cookie Jar (#cookiejar). The Cookie Jar is a physical reminder of how strong you are, especially when you feel weak or depressed. For me, I’m experimenting with an old cookie tin on my desk. As instructed, I'm filling the tin with slips of paper of major obstacles overcome in my life that can be later retrieved to serve as reminders of hardships already surmounted.

David demonstrates that the way to accomplish goals is mental toughness  – something most of us lack. To develop mental toughness, you have to be willingly to work and suffer and, in David’s words, callous your mind. When you understand this idea, the exploits that have made David famous make more sense. Each one was a mini-crucible on his path to fortify his mind and become a better version of his self. And, again, David outlines to the reader how to start acquiring their own mental toughness.

In the end, what makes the book worth reading is David’s ability to tell his stories in a way that makes the reader think “if this guy can do it, maybe I can to it.” Then, he takes one more step forward than most to outline the initial path forward. I guess that should be expected from a man who has always take one more step forward than most.

Stay Hard! See you at the Finish Line,

David Goggins writes a very straightforward story about his life that is full of both success and failure. Its a good read grit and how to keep pushing through adversity when all of the odds are stacked against you. In all honestly it has been a long time where I found it hard to be able to put a book down once I started reading it. This is definitely a book that I have recommended to all of my friends.

Amazing story. David Goggins shares his story of a personal transformation that is very powerful ( providing you can get beyond the many cursings he has to offer.) This man stumbled upon the very powerful laws of success, and used it to change his life and destiny within this world. I was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia with delusions of grandeur, and for 7 years I was in and out hospitals: medicated, electroshocked and had no lasting improvement. The doctor later deemed me affected with "treatment resistant schizophrenia," and recommended my mom transfer me to a long-term care facility (she became my legal guardian as I was deemed a danger to myself.)

This took a turn for the worse and I almost offed myself after realizing the "reality" I believed and lived in for 7 years was a lie. The shock broke me, and my whole being called for death shortly after. But there in the process of committing my final act within this world, lighting struck and I came to myself. I saw this as the act of a coward, because I feared living in this world, hated and laughed at by everyone and everything. "Am I going to let them bully me to end myself? Not a chance. If they want me to go then let them do it with their own two hands. I will no longer run nor hide away in isolation." From that moment on I chose to take back my life from schizophrenia. I faced down every giant it sent to crush me with an unshakable resolve: the giant of extreme anxiety, the giants of fear, paranoia, delusion, the giant of intrusive and blasphemous thoughts, the giants of hallucinations (auditoy and visual,) the giants of insecurity, hate, resentment, persecutory delusions (the world was in me and every where I went people would reaď my mind commenting on my thoughts mostly laughing at the torment i was experiencing,) giant of distrust, the giant of loneliness (there was not a person in the world who i felt I could talk with and pain of that loneliness was unbearable.) I hid away in my room because it was "safe," but in this form of safety there was no freedom, there couldn't be any. But where the "pain" was, in the middle of that fire, the last place I wanted to be, was exactly where I needed to be: I had to willingly choose to make myself uncomfortable. Everyday from that moment of revelation, I left my room and talked with my mother and sisters, whom I thought were witches trying to kill me through witchcraft. I no longer waited for them to come into my room and greet me, instead when they got home, I went out and greeted them. I didn't do it because I felt like it, I did it because I didn't feel like it. I hated them for what I thought they did to me, and because I hated them I chose to embrace them. One inch at a time, one day at a time, I was able to move forward until today, I'm 100% free from all schizophrenia symptoms. I've been off meds for nearly 15 years now. I became an electrician and even passed my red seal and have been working full time in the trade. I just had my one year anniversary that I celebrated with a nurse that I married.

A co-worker loan me "Can't hurt me" because my story of recovering from schizophrenia, more specifically, how I did it reminded him of Goggins own mentality to get beyond his own insecurities, etc. I’ve never even heard the name Goggins until that point. But reading his story resonated with me because I too lived with that defeated self. I too held that "woe is me" victim mentality. I'd ask myself, "why me? What did I do to deserve this?" And I still suffered nonetheless. But when I shifted the question to, "WHY NOT ME?!" Again, the heavens opened up and a light came shining down touching my soul deep within (metaphorically speaking of course:) THAT'S THE QUESTION! It hit me so hard. For so long I couldn't see it. Why not me? Why do I deserve to be excluded from suffering? Babies are born into the world with all sorts of sickness and diseases and suffering, and here I'm crying, why me? I felt so ashamed I could barely lift my head. Nevertheless, this energized me to take on the entire world, and I did, and I won. I managed to accomplish what the doctors said to be impossible for someone who had schizophrenia as entrenched as i did: I overcame schizophrenia.

Reading this book made me realize why my co-worker asked me about Goggins. Many times it was as if I was hearing myself talk, word for word. It was incredible. It's a great book for the person who's tired to living defeated, whose back is against the wall and you've no way out. Within your darkest hour also lays your moment of opportunity to turn the tides of your struggle. Goggins tells us his story. I just shared a part of mine, and you've got your own to write with your life as you face down each obstacle trying to drag you under, and put them under your feet. It's our story, we determine the how it's told.
