Fourth Wing was my favorite read of 2024!
The world-building was just perfect. Basgiath War College was described well for those of us without much military knowledge, so it was easy to follow along even with a heavily military setting. The characters are well-written and relatable, and I love that Violet is not your stereotypical FMC. While she is definitely a badass, her physical fragility was honestly unexpected but welcome as something I’ve never seen before.
The plot of this book was interesting and easy to follow without being predictable. I would call this a medium-paced read, as we get a lot of setup for the world and characters that I’m sure will come into play later in the series - that is, until the end, which becomes much faster paced with higher stakes.
If you like a beautifully-written, first-person POV with a strong FMC, you will love this book. Complete with shadow daddy, sassy dragons, and lovable side characters, it’s truly worth the hype!

Lilith Sorrengail is a hater, Dain can kick rocks, Xaddy had us from the second we learned he existed, and we all need friends like Rhi and Liam.Normally I’m not a fan of the “small and fragile” FMC, but with Violet it’s different. She’s a fighter, she’s fierce, and she’ll do anything to survive Basgiath and become a rider. She finds ways that work for her instead of trying to do things like everyone else. Not strong enough for a fight? Poison. Not tall enough for the gauntlet? Stab it with a dagger and climb up.We all know Xaden is full of secrets, but MY GUY. You know you can trust her. Your dragons are bonded, and do you think Tairn would have bonded her if it would put his girl Sgaeyl at risk? Absolutely not. Xaden sees Violet, or should we say Violence, for who she really is. He knows she’s not weak or fragile where it counts. The courtyard scene where he teaches her to ground and shield? 10/10. The parapet scene where Violence goes to get her man? 100/10. Everything that happens after that? 🥵/10.Fourth Wing is full of character growth, whitty/snarky comebacks, and unexpected twists. Andarna, my queen, YOU are the star of the show. I laughed, smiled from ear to ear, and sobbed like a baby.
