The Fall Risk: A Short Story Kindle电子书

Two good neighbors make the best of a bad Valentine’s Day in a funny and improbably romantic short story by the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Just for the Summer.

It’s Valentine’s Day weekend, and Charlotte and Seth are not looking for romance. Armed with emotional-support bear spray, Charlotte is in self-imposed isolation and on guard from men. Having a stalker can do that to a person’s nerves. Just across the hall and giving off woodsy vibes is Seth, a recently divorced arborist. As in today recently. Heights, he’s fine with. Trust? Not so much. But when disaster traps them one flight up and no way down, an outrageously precarious predicament forces a tree-loving guy and a rattled girl next door to embrace their captivity. Soon their defenses are breaking away. Considering how close they both are to the edge, Charlotte and Seth could be in danger of falling—in love.

This story was literally so wonderful for how short it was
This was, in all honesty, the cutest and most heartfelt short story I’ve ever read. I already knew I loved Abby Jimenez because of Just for the Summer. But, man, when I tell you I’ll follow her novels anywhere now, I 100% mean it.Charlotte and Seth seemed fully developed and honestly like real people I’d love to hang out with. Nothing about this short story felt rushed and it was beautiful to see how much chemistry these two had in so few pages. I don’t want to talk about what happens too much since there are only 80-something pages, but just know that just because this is a short story doesn’t mean it isn’t worthwhile. Also, this short story was funny. Like not in the, ha-ha that was clever funny, but honestly hilariously funny in the most romantic way. I’m not a humorous person, so take my word for it when I say this was just a fun read in general that made me want to laugh out loud.My only gripe about this short story is honestly so petty but here it goes: I absolutely hated the fact that so many statements had question marks at the end of them. It took me out of the story so much when I’d just sit there and try to say the sentence in my head as a question even though it was a statement. Like I said, petty, but it bothered me so much.Overall, this was a very needed short, romantic comedy with a touch of seriousness. I loved her dedication (go check it out if you haven’t already) and I fell in love with the characters instantly. This was the perfect read for a lazy Sunday.

I really enjoyed this story. The main characters were likeable, and the author took a tough situation and made it approachable.

My main issue with the story was the language. There was way more swearing than I felt was necessary, and quite a few F-bombd for such a short story. Also, there was an annoying tendency to end statements with question marks. Occasionally, it helped indicate the tone and confusion of the speaker, but mostly it was distracting. There were also multiple comma splices throughout the text. Again, it was distracting for me.

Overall, I'd give this 3.5 stars. It was enjoyable, but I won't read it again and wouldn't necessarily recommend it to my friends because of the language.

I've been really enjoying short stories lately, especially when it's well developed like this one is. (It's a skill that is harder than it seems.) Sometimes you just don't have the staying power for a novel because of time constraints or stress in RL, so a short story can be a welcome break instead of bogging you down.

I liked this one very much. It's a terrific short story for when you need a lift. The approach to the forced proximity trope was unique and fun. Loved how they could look down at the world around them without being a part of it and enjoy being in their own little bubble. Charlotte could re-experience what it was like to feel secure and carefree again and that ignited her desire to get it back, so we see her face her fear and conquer it. I loved how her friends Seth, Izzy and Gabe encouraged her and built up her confidence. I understood and sympathized with Charlotte, adored the gentle Seth and Gabe, and Izzy was Charlotte's rock.

Overall this is a story of women's empowerment and a blooming healthy supportive love. I really liked everything about this story. It certainly left me feeling better than when I started. It's not fluffy but it's uplifting, and that's exactly what I needed it to be.

Nothing says romantic meet-cute like getting literally trapped with your neighbor and having no choice but to fall for them, right? In "The Fall Risk", Abby Jimenez delivers a novella packed with forced proximity, hilarious banter, and the kind of slow-burn romance that makes you want to shake the characters and yell, "Just kiss already!" Charlotte is determined to have a peaceful, man-free Valentine’s Day (armed with bear spray, because men are the worst), while Seth, her grumpy but suspiciously attractive neighbor, is freshly divorced and fully prepared to spend the holiday alone. But when a construction mishap locks them in their second-story apartments, their solo plans turn into a weekend-long, tension-filled accidental sleepover.

What follows is the ultimate rom-com recipe: one part forced proximity, one part emotionally guarded protagonists, and a generous sprinkle of laugh-out-loud moments. Charlotte’s sarcasm and Seth’s I’m-pretending-not-to-be-charmed energy make their dynamic chef’s kiss, with plenty of reluctant bonding and oh no, I actually like you realizations. Jimenez balances humor with real emotional depth, exploring themes of trust, trauma, and healing without ever making the story feel heavy. It’s quick, it’s sweet, and it’s filled with the kind of moments that make you want to speed-text your best friend and say, I need this to be a Netflix rom-com immediately.

At 4 stars, "The Fall Risk" is the perfect snack-sized romance—funny, heartfelt, and impossible to put down. Jimenez packs a full-fledged rom-com into just 82 pages, proving that sometimes love doesn’t need time—just a little forced proximity and a conveniently placed disaster. If you love banter, grumpy/sunshine energy, and a romance that sneaks up on both the characters and the audience, this one is your next cozy, feel-good read.

It's Valentine's Day weekend and neither Seth nor Charlotte are looking for love. Armed with her emotional support bear spray, Charlotte is in self imposed isolation and on guard from men. Having a stalker does a number to one's nerves. Just across the hall is recently divorced Arborist, as in today divorced. When disaster traps the two of them in their second floor apartments, it forces them to embrace their newfound captivity. Soon their defences start to fall and they're in danger of falling... in love.

Omg, well that was both hilarious and adorable.
Abby is so good with short stories and love stories in general, and this was absolutely no exception to that rule!
Charlotte deserves so much but she is afraid but also doesn't want to be a victim. But Seth is just such a sweetheart, he's able to genuinely read her reactions and be what she needs even if he has to wait. He is a genuine good guy and not a wolf in sheep's clothing! Love that so much.
They were just completely adorable, add in Gabe and Izzy and I was laughing out loud so many times

i thought this book was pretty perfect actually. i like my romance with a bit of actual problems going on, not this whole stupid miscommunication trope being the sole cause of tension. i am very impressed with miss jimenez, this was amazing, with no trace of miscommunication anywhere! the meet cute was smashing, the character vibes were vibing, and the ending was a slay! if the rest of abby’s books are like this one, i’d be up for giving them a go!

Currently in a book slump, I took a chance with my first read by Abby Jimenez and I was very impressed with her work. It was very refreshing to read a book correct in grammar, spelling and punctuation as these days that seems to be too high an expectation! The main leads were both sweet, humorous and endearing leaving you wishing them the best. The secondary characters were colourful and necessary.
Although a short read, the length did not detract from the character or story development.
It was sweet, funny, smart and subtly encouraging.
Well done Abby and thank you.

As always Abby manages to write characters that you fall in love with in the span of 80 odd pages. Seth was so wonderful and so was Charlotte. I’m actually surprised how much she managed to make me love her characters In such a short time.

This was a great introduction to Abby's writing and I loved it so much. She has such an easy writing style which i devoured. I loved that she handles such sensitive matters in the book - i.e stalking. The situations are realistic which helps the characters to being more believable and i was rooting for them from the beginning. Now to choose what book from Abby to read next.
