We bought this game for my nephew and he absolutely loves it. On one side, there are words already listed on the board for beginner Scrabblers. This helps the kids to learn new words, and more importantly, how they fit within each other. Then on the other side, it is a traditional Scrabble board for the players to learn to create their own words and broaden their vocabulary. We like to mix the two and write down the words from the beginner side as "example words" for help on the traditional side. Just by swapping out a few letters here and there, you can have your child learning and making words in no time! :)
I am a former teacher so I understand how important words and reading are for the educational development of children. This is definitely a creative and educational game! I like the fact that it has an easy side and a harder side so that it is appropriate for different ages of chidren.
I sent two Scrabble Junior games and one large adult Scrabble game as Christmas presents to a non-biological "family" of 16 children and 7 adults living in two houses in Monrovia, Liberia located in western Africa. I am told everybody loves them. The children watch the adults play their game, and then they take turns playing the junior games.
My 4.5 year old nephew is just learning how to spell, so when I bought this I wasn't sure if he will be interested in this. He's too young to play the game with all it's rules but he loves to arrange the tiles on the board making words he knows, and sometimes I show him a few new ones. So every few days we do bring it out and have fun with it for a little while. Cons: The tiles are made of cardboard, so I have to make sure he doesn't chew them up or tear up the board where it folds. Also, the quantities of the tiles is less and you may want to buy extra tiles if you feel like it. But overall, it is good enough for the money.
We like to add to our collection of family board games, every so often, as other ones have been played enough times and we need something fresh :) Our daughter is six and she has been reading for several months and this game was a little challenging at first, due to that fact that she is a lazy learner....but she had the hang of it by the second time we played and felt a strong sense of confidence. Especially when she beat me. It has 2 sides....one that has the words already spelled out on the board (easy for the little ones) and a harder side that is blank.....take care
Actually, I bought this to get my nephew started getting more acquainted with words and spelling them. I thought it would help him stretch his vocabulary as well.
Unfortunately I should have given the physical game more thought. Instead my thoughts were on wasting more money on something he wasn't happy with. The game was $10.00 and it looked it. The letters were cardboard and things just looked and felt like they wouldn't be fun.
I expected to get better material, it was all card board, very small letters and the paper that easy got ripped when removing the letters. the points system was alo the same material but even smaller. I really would like to see better materials; I but Catan Junior at the same time, and even though it was also made of cardboard it is a much better material.
I bought this for a child who loves playing scrabble on an adult set. This set has cardboard tiles , it cAnnot be seen as a junior version of the adult game. I have bought much better quality junior scrabble sets in the past, this one was not fit for purpose.
