With Amazon Reload, you can add funds quickly and easily using your credit, debit, or prepaid gift card and then use your balance toward millions of items on Amazon.
Two easy ways to add funds to your balance
Reload
With Reload, you can add funds to your Amazon Gift Card balance with a one-time, manual reload on a date of your choice.
Auto-Reload
Want to set it and forget it? You can set up Auto-Reload to schedule automated fund transfers to your balance--either when your funds drop below a certain amount or on a regularly scheduled daily, weekly, or monthly basis.
How does it work?
Each reload transaction adds an Amazon Gift Card to your Amazon Gift Card balance.
Are there any maintenance fees for the funds I reload and does the balance I reload expire?
No. Amazon Does not charge any fees for you balance and there is no expiration date for the balance you reload.
What can I use my balance to shop for?
You can use your balance toward eligible items on Amazon, including physical products, digital content, and offers from third party merchants.
Can I change my Auto-Reload setting?
Yes. Go to the Your Account View Gift Card balance page to change the amount of the Auto-Reload, the amount to trigger the Auto-Reload, or to turn off Auto-Reload.

Quick and easy funds transfer even with an increased minimum
I like how this method of adding funds to my account is always quick and easy. I like how I can use my CC or debit card of choice to quickly add (especially if it's already on-file) any amount over five bucks and that once I pull the trigger on it, the funds will show up in my account in exactly five minutes flat (every time). I did like it better before the minimum increased from fifty cents to five bucks because I could better clear off the remaining amount on a visa giftcard and not lose a couple bucks, but oh well. Despite that it still works great. I’ve used Reload several times now, it's always worked perfectly, and I highly recommend it.
Reloading my Amazon.com Gift Card Balance has been such a convenient way to manage my spending on Amazon. It’s super easy to add funds to my balance, and I love that I can reload any amount I choose. The funds show up instantly, so there’s no wait, which is great when I’m ready to check out. Plus, reloading directly lets me stick to a budget since I can load up my balance and then spend only what I’ve added. It’s also a handy option for gifting, letting me manage my own gift card balance without the hassle of buying new cards. A simple, reliable feature that I use often!
I have a set amount coming out of my checking account each month for loading on to my Amazon Gift Card Balance. It has worked perfectly from day one with no issues whatsoever. It was also easy to go in and change the day of the month I wanted that to be done. When I find an item I want/need, I just put it into my "Future Purchases" saved list and then on the day of the auto-reload, it's easy to go into my "Future Purchases" list and click on "Add to Cart".....and it's done. Proceed to Check Out and it then uses my Gift Card Balance for the purchase. Great system.....I really like it and never had any problems.
Given the issues others have had noted below, I may have gotten lucky. Like lots of reviews, I was putting in a prepaid visa to use from myprepaidcenter from a rebate program. I went through and put the full amount that was on the card in and it went through just fine. I did add the card to my account first (since I found this after discovering you can't split payments on cards), so maybe that was useful? I also have a prime visa as a main credit card on my account, so not sure if that affects it at all either. Regardless, it ended up working the way I wanted it to, so hopefully there have been some system upgrades that have alleviated other's comments....or I just got lucky.
I like this gift card for a few reasons. One, Kinda like an off book savings account. Two, When you have a tidy sum accumulated, see something of your wish list, easy to just say yes. Three, using a prime card gives me five percent back that can also pay for other things to enjoy without care of going into debt for it.
I had a prepaid gift card I received as a gift and wanted to put it on my Amazon gift card balance. Because of the low reviews on the reload option I was skeptical of that option so I first went the path of buying a digital gift card and emailing it to myself. In retrospect, that path seems to be no different than the reload path. It took a couple of tries because I didn't know exactly how the process works. I exceeded the balance of the prepaid gift card because they do a couple of small (a few cents) charges to test the new payment method. Then when that went through they charged the full amount which failed because it exceeded the balance due to the test charges. Once I saw how it works I just waited a few days and everything backed out. I tried again and bought a small amount to see if there were test charges and if it went through fine. I monitored the gift card activity on their web site and the second time there were no test charges and the reload went through. So I did another purchase for the remaining gift card balance. In my case the only gotcha was the initial test charges. Going forward I'll know how to plan for that.
When I order using my debit card, sometimes orders get cancelled (not by me) or delayed, and it's confusing when the funds go out of my account then back in, then maybe out again when the order is finally fulfilled. When using an egift card, my account doesn't get messed up and the purchases are easier to keep track of - at least, that's been my experience.
I use this to add a specific amount of money when I play games on my Amazon Fire Tablet, or I rent a movie on Prime Video. For me, it allows me to have enjoyment without breaking the bank, and I don't have to use a credit or debit card in its place. It keeps me on a budget.
I used this to load a pre-paid gift card into my account so I could apply it toward a purchase that was more than the amount of my gift card. This seems to be the only workable way to do that, since Amazon does not allow split payments.
I read reviews indicating that people have had major issues with this, so I was a bit concerned. In my case, though, it worked seamlessly.
I think there were two reasons for that:
1. I was only loading one single gift card into my account. I think if you try to load a few gift cards at a time it will trigger their fraud alerts and all bets are off.
2. I made the transaction for one penny less than the amount on my gift card. I've had issues where a prepaid gift card was declined when I tried to use the exact amount on the card, so rather than risk getting a decline and causing issues, I just transferred $49.99 rather than the full $50. Yes, that means I now have a card with $0.01 left on it, but I can handle that for a seamless transaction. (My time potentially troubleshooting issues is worth more than the penny I left behind.)
Keep in mind that the process is not immediate. I initially received an email that my purchase was being processed. Then 5 minutes or so later, I received another email that the transaction had been completed and my account had been reloaded. At that point I was able to make my purchase using the newly reloaded balance.
So don't expect to complete this as you're heading out the door on the way to the airport or anything. Figure you'll spend anywhere from 5 minutes to 90 minutes waiting for the confirmation before you can use the funds. And if you have more than one gift card to load, I would highly recommend spreading the transactions out over at least a few days.
