Daniel Doyle was inspired to write the story of his eldest aunt after a commemorative ceremony for his cousin, Colleen Cain Daves, at the Doyle family gravesite outside Ivesdale, Illinois. Colleen collected items Sister Margaret had sent to her parents, Con and Clara Doyle. His cousins later asked Dan whether he had ever considered writing a family history based on Sister Margaret’s life as embodied in her letters home? After all, they said, he was the only writer in the family, having been a newspaper reporter for a decade and having written quite a few legal briefs in his 35 years as a lawyer in St. Louis. And so his first book, a family history centered on a remarkable aunt's story, was born from family, faith, and a bit of flattery.
