Kristine Smith is the author of the Jani Kilian series and a number of science fiction and fantasy short stories, and is a winner of the Astounding Award (formerly the John W Campbell Award) for Best New Writer. She worked as a pharmaceutical process development scientist for 26 years, but now writes full-time.
Kristine has also written the supernatural thrillers GIDEON and JERICHO under the name Alex Gordon.

There is also a prequel novella, Incident on a Small Colony which takes place during Jani's pre-Code of Conduct time on the run.
