John Montague

John Montague is Professor Emeritus at the State University of New York College at Buffalo. He was formally trained in architectural history ( Ph.D. University of Wisconsin, 1974) and was active in developing the field of Design History. He has worked as a designer, filmmaker, animator, illustrator, architectural preservationist, and boatbuilder. He is coauthor /illustrator of two popular boatbuilding books: Building the Six Hour Canoe and Building the Weekend Skiff. He was cofounder and director of the Buffalo Maritime Center, dedicated to the preservation and restoration of historic watercraft. In addition to boat design he is a member of the American Society of Marine Artists, focusing on maritime painting and illustration.
