Laurie Penman (1932) is a Mechanical Engineer who practiced as a designer for two decades before becoming a clock maker and restorer in 1972. The change was the result of a long stay in hospital - and it was there that the idea of the Celtic Empire was born. There are four books written so far: Seeds of Empire,Camelod,Invasion,Boudica,in the meantime Laurie became known as a teacher of clock making, publishing several books on the subject: Clock Design & Construction, Clock Repairer's Handbook, Practical Clock Escapements, The Carriage Clock. Laurie contributes monthly columns to a couple of clock magazines, has constructed and operated a correspondence course, and produced a small number of booklets on clock making techniques. He moved to America in 2002 to take up a position with the American Watchmaker-Clockmaker Institute in Ohio, coming back again to Britain in 2010 He lives with his wife of fifty seven years in Worcestershire. Still writing - because it is easier than working.
