Kyle N. Weir, Ph.D., LMFT, is a Professor of Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling in the Counselor Education program at California State University—Fresno. He has also previously served as Chair of the Department of Counselor Education and Rehabilitation and as Coordinator of the Counselor Education program. He currently serves as the Director of Fresno Family Counseling Center – a student-training clinic operated by the faculty and students of Fresno State’s Marriage, Family, and Child Counseling degree serving the needs of the California Central Valley community. He primarily teaches the following courses: Couples Therapy, Family Therapy Theories, MFT Business Practices, and Advanced Practicum/Supervision courses. He received a B.S. in Public Policy and Management, an M.A. in Sociology (Organizations), a M.M.F.T. in Marital & Family Therapy, and a Ph.D. in Sociology/Marriage and Family Therapy from the University of Southern California. He is a licensed marriage and family therapist in California, was a part-time clinician at LDS Family Services, and now practices with the firm Roubicek & Thacker, Inc. He also serves as the Clinical Director of LifeSTAR of the Central Valley through Roubicek and Thacker, Inc. He is married to Allison Brown Weir, and they have six children: Kellie, Nathan, Samantha, Joshua, Jason, and Daniel. It was through the personal adoption experiences with his children that Dr. Weir developed an academic interest in play therapy with adoptive and foster families. He has also spent decades doing couples therapy, as well as supervising his students who engage in couples therapy. The Collaborative Attachment Systems Therapy (CAST) model was developed through his academic teaching, supervision, and clinical experience with couples therapy.
