Linda M. Whiteford is a medical anthropologist and Professor of Anthropology and previously was Vice Provost for Program Development and Review, Associate Vice President for Global Strategies and International Affairs, and Associate Vice President for Strategic Initiatives at the University of South Florida. Dr. Whiteford has her doctorate in Cultural Anthropology, and master’s degrees in both Anthropology and Public Health. As AVP for Academic Affairs and Strategic Initiatives, she led USF to develop programs aligned with USF’s Strategic Goals. Toward that end, she facilitated several university-wide task forces that resulted in the creation of the Office of Community Engagement, the Office of Sustainability, and the Office of USF World. As part of USF’s advancement toward reaching their strategic goals, Dr. Whiteford provided oversight and development for the Global Academic Partners Program, helped develop and guide the creation of the USF School of Global Sustainability, and helped develop one of the signature courses of the School’s Masters Degree Program. She received her BA at Beloit College, her MA and PhD at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee, and her MPH at the University of Texas. She is an internationally recognized researcher, lecturer, and author who has consulted for the World Bank, the World Health Organization, and the Pan American Health Organization and advises on global health policy. She has received National Science Foundation research awards to study social networks and disasters in Mexico and Ecuador and water engineering in Bolivia. She is currently writing a book with Cecilia Vindrola Padros entitled: The Structural Violence of Cholera” for Left Coast Press.
